Public Health England has produced a document identifying preventative actions that can improve people’s health, support quality improvement and potentially save the NHS and the wider system money – including the uptake of contraception.

The document is intended to support and inform commissioners and local commissioning strategies. It outlines contraception, in particular the uptake of long-acting reversible contraceptives in general practice, maternity and abortion pathways, as one of six areas estimated to improve health and wellbeing and save money to the health and/or care system within a five-year horizon.
