Launch of the inaugural NHS Regional Clinical Fellow Scheme 2021/22

NHS England and NHS Improvement have partnered with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management to establish the new NHS Regional Clinical Fellow Scheme. The scheme will deliver on a key commitment of the NHS People Plan 2020/21 to expand the opportunities and support to talented clinical leaders and to strengthen clinical leadership capability in the NHS.
Applications are invited for a new and exciting fellowship scheme for aspiring clinical leaders.
About the scheme
Clinical fellows will be based in NHS regional teams across England for 12 months from 1 September 2021.
Posts are available less than full time and are hosted by NHS England and NHS Improvement.
Clinical fellows will lead key projects that contribute to regional and national priorities and will develop a range of skills in leadership, management, strategy, policy, workforce, supported by a comprehensive education programme.
The scheme is open to doctors in training, dentists, pharmacists, allied health professionals, nurses, midwives, and healthcare scientists who are keen to increase their leadership capabilities and have not held a senior leadership role previously.

How to apply
The scheme is open to qualified clinicians that hold full registration with the relevant professional body and are able to demonstrate experience at team leader level, equivalent to an NHS Band 7 role. Doctors must have completed foundation training and not gained CCT.
