Date: 23 Jan 2020

Type: Sexual and Reproductive Health News

The first 2020 issue is out during Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, covering Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust #SmearForSmear campaign, with a focus on tackling the myths around HPV as the NHS Cancer Screening Programme in England moves towards HPV primary screening. This edition also brings the latest data from Public Health England (PHE) confirming that high HPV vaccination coverage is helping to drive down cancer-causing HPV infections in young sexually-active women. In this month’s eFeature, Lucy Emmerson, Director of the Sex Education Forum, presents findings from a recent survey of young people which shows that less than half rated their relationships and sex education (RSE) as ‘good’ or ‘very good’.

Other items to look out for this month include: PHE’s recently launched 2019 annual report on HIV showing a continuing fall in HIV transmissions in the UK, most steeply among gay and bisexual men; a new LGBT e-learning suite for GPs, including a module on the SRH needs of the LGBT community; and much more.
