FSRH calls for the National Maternity Review to revise its recommendations to include the provision of postpartum contraceptive care in maternity services.
In this response FSRH argues that the National Maternity Review’s failure to comprehensively address the need for better contraceptive care in maternity services represents a missed opportunity. Using evidence from our existing CEU guideline Postnatal Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare and key messages from their upcoming joint RCOG green top ‘Contraception Following Pregnancy’ (due for publication in December 2016) we demonstrate why contraceptive care should be viewed as an integral part of best practice in maternity services.
