Today FSRH publishes its reviewed Service Standards for Supporting Doctors’ Appraisal and Revalidation in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (SRH).

The Service Standards for Supporting Doctors’ Appraisal and Revalidation in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare include the following new features:

  • Recommendations from the Pearson Report, ‘Taking Revalidation Forward’
  • Supporting information for appraisal and revalidation
  • Requirement for recognition of trainer status for revalidation
  • Revised examples of reflective templates for appraisal

The standard gives practical guidance on how to complete annual appraisal for those healthcare professionals working in SRH full time and for those where it makes up part of their portfolio of work. Guidance includes advice on completing CPD requirements and core activities relevant to SRH.

Dr Helen Munro, Chair of FSRH’s Clinical Standards Committee, said:

“There is robust evidence to show that revalidation has strengthened clinical governance within healthcare organisations and has driven positive change in doctors’ practice. The Clinical Standards Committee has worked hard to develop this standard as a support tool for doctors and nurses working in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. It is essential that all healthcare professionals demonstrate that they have the knowledge, skills and experience required to work as safe and effective sexual and reproductive healthcare clinicians. The current context of changing health services makes these Service Standards even more relevant, with doctors who may not be familiar with a given specialty needing easily accessible advice to support the appraisal process.”
