Type: FSRH News and Information

Get more involved in our work by becoming one of our Question Writers for our FSRH Membership Exam (MFSRH).

Are you a physician working in sexual and reproductive health? Are you interested in medical education or raising your profile with an academic outlook?  We have an exciting opportunity to get more involved in our work by becoming one of our FSRH Membership Exam (MFSRH) Question Writers.

We are looking for clinicians from diverse backgrounds – SRH experts, GU physicians, gynaecologists, menopause experts, genital dermatology experts and general practitioners with special interest in sexual health. An intention to learn and interest in the clinical area are the only requisites. You do not have to be an FSRH member to be a MFSRH question writer.

The MFSRH is a recognised qualification in sexual and reproductive health care, held by clinicians who provide expertise in community, primary, secondary and tertiary care.

What does the role involve?

As a Question Writer you will help us develop and deliver our MFSRH exam by submitting questions to our online question banks throughout the year, and attending question writing and reviewing days. These questions can be based on your own clinic experience which you can record over the month.

You will need to be available for our annual training conference - and an online session which takes place every three months on Zoom / Microsoft Teams to review and bank your questions. On average, most question writers manage to write 4-5 questions every quarter that they bring for their peer review discussion. This equates to about 1 hour a month commitment.

You will join a wide community of SRH specialists, GPs, GU physicians and other medical professionals as question writers. You will also be given the opportunity to observe and understand how postgraduate exams are planned and delivered. This will provide you with experience and opportunities to consider other more senior roles in medical education.

What area of clinical expertise do I need to have?

You do not need to be an expert on every area of SRH. If you have knowledge and experience in any of the following you could be a MFSRH question writer.

  • Fertility control
  • Pregnancy planning & preconception care
  • Early pregnancy, unplanned pregnancy, abortion care
  • Genital tract infections
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Urogynaecological pain
  • Screening relevant to SRH
  • Adolescent SRH
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Menopause and postmenopausal care
  • Transgender health problems
  • Reproductive mental health
  • Sexual wellbeing
  • Sexual violence

How will I benefit from the role?

Becoming one of our MFSRH Question Writers is a great opportunity to:

  • Learn, develop and edit Single Best Answer and Extended Matching Questions that will help build our MFSRH exams
  • Enhance your peer reviewing skills and develop your medical education expertise
  • Work closely with leading experts in SRH - and learn more about our organisation and our commitment to improve SRH
  • Use these experiences to support your CPD
  • Be formally acknowledged for your contribution

Please note, this role is not remunerated but all relevant training will be provided.

How can I apply?

To apply, please fill in our online application form as soon as possible. Recruitment for Question Writers is ongoing and submitted applications will be reviewed by our Exams Committee on a rolling basis.
