Join us for a week-long celebration of Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) Doctors from 9 to 13 October 2023.
A Vital Part of Our FSRH Community
At the FSRH, we recognise the vital role that SAS doctors play in our community. They are not just colleagues but mentors, leaders, and friends. Their commitment to our field ensures that we continue to make progress in sexual and reproductive healthcare, ultimately benefiting patients across the country.
What Are SAS Doctors?
Specialty and Associate Specialist Doctors, or SAS doctors for short, are highly skilled medical professionals who have chosen to specialise in a particular field. In the context of sexual and reproductive healthcare, they are a crucial part of the team, contributing their expertise to patient care, research, and service development.
The Leadership Role of SAS Doctors
One of the remarkable aspects of SAS doctors is their leadership position within our field. They bring years of experience and specialised knowledge to the table, making them invaluable leaders and mentors for junior colleagues. SAS doctors often serve as clinical leads, ensuring the smooth functioning of clinics, and taking charge of training and development programs.
Dr Sophie Nicolls, FSRH SAS Committee Chair says:
Today, I want to shine a spotlight on a group of often unsung heroes within our healthcare system – the Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) Doctors – and the invaluable leadership role they play in delivering specialised sexual and reproductive healthcare.
As the Chair of the FSRH SAS Doctors' Committee, I have had the privilege of working closely with these dedicated professionals who are so instrumental in ensuring that high-quality sexual and reproductive healthcare remains accessible to all.
Research and Service Development
In addition to their clinical responsibilities, SAS doctors are actively engaged in research and service development. They contribute to the advancement of sexual and reproductive healthcare through their involvement in studies, clinical audits, and the implementation of best practices. Their work has a lasting impact on the quality of care we provide.
So, as we celebrate the extraordinary work of SAS doctors, we want to extend our appreciation to our SAS doctor members. Your dedication, expertise, and leadership are the cornerstones of our specialty, and you are making a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals.
