Launched this September, our 2023-2026 strategy ensures we are dedicated to holding ourselves environmentally accountable and to enact our purpose in a sustainable manner.

This year’s Annual Conference provided us the opportunity to put our strategy into action, working with Union Street’s onsite caterers, Graysons, to achieve an 100% meat-free event.

Graysons pride themselves in “…creating innovative and far-reaching strategies that make a tangible, positive impact…”. Slow Food UK has named Graysons ‘the most sustainable caterer in the UK’ for three years running. This includes a commitment to:

  • celebrating local produce, with approx. 60% of all produce coming from UK suppliers
  • providing carbon calculations on menus to highlight low-impact choices for all clients
  • actively reducing food waste, with unused food supporting local charities and homeless communities, or being turned into rich organic fertiliser
  • reducing single-use plastic usage by 90% to date

Gary Waltham, FSRH CEO said, “We made a firm commitment to take corporate accountability to minimise our impact on climate change in our 2023-2026 strategy. We will do this in several ways over the course of the strategy and beyond, but an early marker of our commitment has been to deliver entirely meat-free catering at our Annual Conference on 8 December 2023. By providing vegetarian and vegan catering, we are not only able to offer delicious and nutritious food choices to delegates, but we are also taking a positive step to make our events sustainable and environmentally friendly. We have received positive feedback from members and my thanks to all for supporting us with this.”

We'll soon be launching our 2024 events - find out more on our dedicated events page.
