NHSE are asking for expressions of interest from Trusts in England who are able to provide abortion services where patients cannot be treated by community providers. Deadline 14 May 2021.

We have been asked to share this by a group of clinicians and organisations (eg BPAS, MSI) involved in the delivery of abortion care:

"Providing NHS abortion services – urgent need for Trusts (in England) to express interest to access additional potential funding

Please could we encourage any of you who deliver NHS abortion care within NHS Trusts in England to express your interest in the NHSE procurement exercise which closes on 12:00 on 14 May 2021.

NHSE has launched a formal Public Prior Information (PIN) notice and market engagement questionnaire for Trusts who are able to provide abortion services where patients cannot be treated by community providers (e.g. on-site HDU where needed, ability to admit for observation, availability of on-site laboratory and transfusion services).   If you register it will ensure you are on the NHSE radar and will avoid you being left out, you’ll be included within a regional network of providers and it may unlock additional funding both as a block to enable investment and on-going enhanced tariff.   Most importantly, it will mean that patients in your area can continue to access local services rather than being forced to travel to a more distant unit which would be the case if you do not express an interest by May 2021.

Further details are available at the eTender procurement portal website EU Supply.

Please ensure your Trust registers by completing the questionnaire that is available online – ref: 36391 - Termination of pregnancy for patients with complex co-morbidities.   You do not have to provide everything in the questionnaire – this is to build a database of suitable, local providers.   The deadline to express an interest and thereby inform NHSE that you do offer abortion services is:  12:00, Friday 14 May 2021"
