This course provides the theory component of the FSRH/BMS Menopause Special Skills Training Module. It will enhance the practice and clinical confidence of any doctor or experienced nurse working in primary care or women's health. It will explain the evidence base and encourage a reflective and pragmatic approach using an interactive lecture and workshop format.

The medical course organiser is Dr Sarah Gray, who has developed this training program since its inception in 2003. She is a GP and previously Clinical Lead for Menopause in Cornwall. She will be joined by Dr Paula Briggs who is a Consultant in Sexual & Reproductive Health for Southport and Ormskirk NHS Hospital Trust. They are both accredited Primary Trainers in Menopause. Other Group leaders are experienced clinicians delivering post-reproductive healthcare.

This course is suitable for a doctor or nurse who is already providing women's healthcare whether in primary care, sexual health, community or acute gynaecology settings.

The course material is entirely NICE NG23 compliant. The format promotes discussion of how the recommendations can be applied to every day clinical practice. It is both pragmatic and practical in outloook. The 6th Edition of the British Menopause Society (BMS) Handbvook is recommended pre-course teaching. Speakers summarise each topic to the whole group which then divides into workshop groups of no more than 12 delegates plus a menopause expert to discuss a variety of related clinical scenarios. This provides the opportunity to handle products, ask questions, and really make sure that you understand.
