Topics

  • Unplanned Pregnancy and Abortion Care

This year’s annual conference jointly organised by the British Society of Abortion Care Providers (BSACP) and the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Sexuality & Sexual Health Section (which once again is a remote/online event) focuses on the themes of “Training” and “Caring”, and encompasses the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on abortion care and service delivery.

The programme has been conceived to appeal to a broad range of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, midwives, and those whose focus is abortion care provision.

The format of this year’s conference is primarily presentations (with live Q&As), and a new feature this year is brief wellness/mindfulness sessions during the am/pm refreshment breaks specifically aimed at the busy healthcare practitioner. There will also be free communications for which submissions are invited. A selection of the best submissions will be presented live during the event by their authors (with opportunities for Q&A). All other good quality submissions will be available for delegates to view online, during and after the event.

Delegates may choose to attend all day, or a morning or afternoon session.

Topics the conference will cover include:

• The new Special Skills Module (SSM) in Abortion Care
• Effective approaches to undergraduate teaching
• The new UK Service Specifications for Abortion Care
• The value of the clinician and service user relationship
• Clinician wellbeing
• Safeguarding and teleconsultation for abortion during Covid-19
• Prudent use of ultrasound in abortion care
• Pain relief in gynae procedures

There will also be free communications for which submissions are invited. Please note that the abstract submission deadline has been extended to 11.59pm on Thursday 9 September. A selection of the best submissions will be presented live during the event by their authors. All the other good quality abstract submissions will be available for delegates to view online, both during and after the event.

Preferential discounted rates are available to BSACP members, and all participants booking both the morning and afternoon sessions are entitled to a discount of £10.00.
