Specialty

Specialty Training Programme in CSRH

The specialty training programme is a six year run-through training programme commencing at ST1. The curriculum comprises Basic Training for 3 years in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Sexual and Reproductive Health. Trainees will follow slightly different competencies from O&G trainees as these are more focused towards Gynaecology rather than gaining Labour Ward expertise. Gynaecological competencies will need to be maintained throughout training. Intermediate training (Years 4 and 5) will continue the strand of SRH but encompass training in Genito-Urinary Medicine and Public Health. Advanced Training (Year 6) will be a year of completing all outstanding competencies but with opportunities for shadowing and preparing for a role as a consultant. Throughout the programme the trainee will have opportunities for training in leadership and management. Other training attachments will include Sexual Assault and Sexual Problems. The programme is designed to allow trainees to develop the skills to lead and manage the community based Sexual Health services of the future and work within large multidisciplinary teams.

Future Training Posts (updated April 2012)

The Faculty welcomes all new training posts in CSRH and engages regularly with Workforce Planning in England and the devolved nations to determine training numbers in the UK. The Faculty alone does not have the power to increase numbers. We can however, via this website, report news about what is happening within the UK regarding posts within our speciality. We understand that trainee doctors are planning their careers and so will do what we can to provide accurate information when we receive it.

We understand that there is at least one new CSRH post in Wales which has been approved. This post will be at ST1 with a start date of August 2012. Further details can be found on the Wales Deanery website: http://www.walesdeanery.org/ - The closing date for this post(s) is 9am, 20th April.

The Faculty would like to state clearly that it only knew in December 2011 of the possibility of there being a new CSRH post in Wales and has just recently learnt of this post now being advertised. We were therefore unable to advise potential applicants prior to this about such a post becoming available.

Note that there will be no new posts in England this year.

At present it is planned that there will also be no CSRH posts in Scotland to start in 2012. However please do consult the Scottish Medical Training website to view vacancies in other speciality areas:

Should the situation change relating to the information we have provided here, we will post it on this site immediately; we would therefore recommend that you check this site on a regular basis.

The Person Specifications which have been used previously for our current set of trainees are below:

Current Speciality Trainees

We currently have 17 speciality trainees with representation within each deanery in England though there are none as yet in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.

Trainees should also familiarise themselves with the information provided by the GMC:

Educational Supervisors

The GMC are responsible for educationally approving all training locations. If another location is required for training which is not recognised by the GMC as an approved training location then there is a risk that trainees who receive training there will not have it automatically recognised and counted towards their CCT. For more details about what you should be if you intend to use a non-GMC recognised training location then go to:
